Welcome to Moontide Adventures
with Chris and Keren
The Story so far...
The Boat
This is Moontide, a 33' steel Ebbtide sailing yacht, currently undergoing a refit at Exeter Basin. The Ebbtide is a long keel heavy displacement sailing yacht and Moontide weighs in at about 10 ton! She sits in the water rather than on it and so is pretty stable compared to lighter boats. Moontide has a 42' mast and is cutter rigged, meaning she has two sails forward of the mast and one aft (behind!).
The Ebbtide is an Alan Pape design and is designed as an ocean going yacht. This has been proven as Chris has taken Moontide across to the Caribbean (and back!) twice already and knows several other Ebbtide owners who have made even more adventurous trips. Moontide was home-built by Chris and his sailing partner, John, from scratch with Chris welding the frame and then sheets of steel to the frame! They then fitted her out inside and Chris even made the sails! She was launched in July 2003.
Moontide looks slightly different from this picture now as her sail covers and dodgers are brown (in keeping with her stripe) and with a new foresail being made before we leave, she will have a completely new livery.
