We're still here waiting for our weather window. so whilst sitting on board listening to the wind generator whizzing round and rolling about a bit in 30mph gusts of wind, I thought that for the sake of those unfamiliar with sailing I would explain what our weather window is!
When we leave, we will head out round the Bay of Biscay to the northern coast of Spain (possibly La Coruna). This will be a trip of about 500 miles and as we cover, in good conditions, very roughly 100 miles a da, it will take at least 5 days to get there.
Chris uses a website called passage weather to check out the winds etc and this provides a 7-day forecast. Currently the end of the week looks like a possibility but as this 'summer' has proved on more thanonce again forecasts can change!!!!
If the weather is good once we're on our way we may go straight down to the south coast of Portugal - a further 500-odd miles which would then take a further 5/6 days or so. A further option would be to carry on a bit and then stop somewhere along the coast of Portugal; as you can see once we set off absolutely nothing is set in stone and we can really not predict when we will be back in contact with anyone!
