The day of New Year’s Eve was lovely! Bright warm sun – T-shirt weather (excuse the photo!) Of course, here we can celebrate New Year twice – once in Spain and an hour later in Portugal (the same as UK) and we had thought that there could well be a flotilla of dinghies going from one side to the other. However, Brenda, in large converted boat up-river, invited everyone to nibbles etc on her partner’s and her boat. (Her partner, Peter, unfortunately had to go back to England after Xmas so was not able there). There were about 40 people there (yes big boat!) and at one stage Chris counted 19 dinghies hanging off the back of it!!! One of the gang, Spike, thought that a little Scottish dancing would be of order and he, his partner Kari, Brenda and Scott, (Scottish!!) arranged some music and practised beforehand so we could celebrate in true Scottish-style. And in true Scottish-style it RAINED!!!! Luckily we arrived before the heavens opened but did get a little wet as the boat was quite a long way up-river beyond the twin towns and it took about 30 minutes in the dinghy to get there. The rain stopped just before mid-night but it did mean that no dancing took place before 12.00. There were the usual cheers, toasts, kisses and then Auld Lang Syne was sang. It was then deemed that the rear deck was dry enough to dance on and away we went. It was great fun – so much so that in fact I forgot that I had thought of whizzing off to Portugal and we celebrated New Year mark II on board as well. Around about 2.00 (can’t remember if that was Spanish or Portugese time!!) we thought we ought to leave to catch the last of the tide down the river – over a 30 minute journey it can make a bit of difference both in speed and fuel consumption. I believe the last people left about 4.30! |

Just a quickie to say I've updated some photos and in fact put a 'new' photo gallery up. The old photos are still there - just look under 'More'!!!! Unfortunately the last time I think I've updated them twice in error so there are lots there in Gallery 2 twice so hence the new 'recent' page!! I plan to remove them but can't work out how at the mo!!!
So, where do I start?
I’ve written 3 episodes chronologically this time, so please scroll right down to the first one “Back Up River”!!!! I’m hoping that this will work – please let me know if it’s too confusing. I have loads more to say but will leave it at this for now and I WILL update again soon and add the photos – provided I can get ashore. Just in case I don’t and/or you are too busy to read again, I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas – it does seem very strange not to be seeing everyone and celebrating with you – not least because the sun is shining and during the day it’s still warm enough to sit outside in a T-shirt and shorts. We have some great plans here for Xmas that I will tell you about later. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
